We are pleased to continue our intern spotlight series! Over a couple weeks, we are introducing each our summer interns to learn more about their background and interests.
This week we are excited to introduce Joseph Wix, Karla Nguyen, and Jack Hillesheim.
Joseph Wix
Joseph has joined our Actuarial department and is attending Bentley University. Although his hometown is Granby, Connecticut, he recently moved with his family to West Yarmouth, Massachusetts. With an aim to build a career in the property and casualty industry, Joseph wants to learn real-world application of actuarial science. Said Joseph, “The calm and inviting environment I experienced during my internship interviews was the reason I chose to work at Intact Specialty. The people were genuinely interested in what I had to say and answered all my questions.” Joseph doesn’t think of himself as much of a traveler, however, if given a chance to go anywhere in the world, he would love to go to England to see the Premier League match. He recently finished watching T.V. series Peaky Blinder. If Joseph was in a deserted island with food and water and two items of his choice, he would choose to bring a soccer ball for entertainment and sunscreen. “I was in Puerto Rico recently, and I’m peeling more than ever. So, sunscreen is a must!”, he says.
Karla Nguyen
Karla is interning at our Actuarial department. This summer, she hopes to gain a better understanding of the property and casualty insurance industry, specifically specialty insurance. Karla is from Cottage Grove, Minnesota and is attending the University of St. Thomas. She is excited to learn about the different things that can be insured, and coverages offered by the company – that has also employed alumni of her college. The last book Karla read was The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, and the last T.V. show she watched was Schitt’s Creek. Karla is bilingual and can speak English and Vietnamese.
Jack Hillesheim
Jack is from Eagan, Minnesota, and has also joined the Actuarial department. With this internship, he hopes to gain exposure of working in the insurance industry and understanding what entails a job of an actuary. Said Jack “learning about actuarial science in a classroom is one thing, but actually experiencing it is another. I’m looking forward to learning about the industry”. Jack is studying at the University of Minnesota. He decided to work at Intact Specialty because he wanted to work in the property and casualty insurance industry and wanted to learn about specialty coverages that many do not know about. If Jack had a chance to go anywhere in the world, he would love to Patagonia for its mountain ranges and hiking opportunities. He highly recommends watching T.V. series Mare of Easttown.
Best of luck Joseph, Karla and Jack! We look forward to working with you and being a part of your career development.
