Intern Spotlight Series: Introducing interns David Toadvine, Samuel Lower, Gavin Caneda and Sehaj Singh

We are pleased to continue our intern spotlight series. Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing each of our summer interns, offering insight into their backgrounds, interests, and aspirations. This week we are proud to introduce interns David Toadvine, Samuel Lower, Gavin Caneda and Sehaj Singh.

David Toadvine

David joins us this summer as an IT intern in our Salem, Virginia office. A student at James Madison University, he’s excited to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment and deepen his understanding of IT systems and infrastructure. “I’m hoping to build real-world skills that complement what I’ve learned in the classroom and to contribute meaningfully to the team,” he shares.

Originally from Louisa, Virginia, David was drawn to Intact because of its collaborative culture and the opportunity to work on impactful projects. “I was impressed by Intact’s commitment to innovation and how interns are encouraged to explore their interests while making a difference,” he says.

If David could travel anywhere in the world, he’d choose Japan. “I’ve always been fascinated by the blend of tradition and technology in Japanese culture,” he says. The last show he enjoyed was The Last of Us, which he found both gripping and thought-provoking.

Samuel Lower

Samuel is a Finance Intern with the Specialty Management team in the Boston office this summer. He is a student at Bryant University and is eager to gain hands-on experience in a corporate environment. Through this internship, he hopes to build a deeper understanding of how daily operations function across departments, collaborate with experienced professionals, and strengthen his financial background. He sees this opportunity as a valuable step toward a long-term career in the finance industry.

Samuel is from Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts. He was drawn to Intact because of its strong and supportive company culture. After researching the company and speaking with team members, he connected with Intact’s emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and open communication.

If Samuel could travel anywhere in the world, he would choose Argentina. He is especially interested in exploring Buenos Aires and Patagonia for their food, beautiful scenery, and world-class hiking. The last book he read was The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel, which changed the way he thinks about financial decision-making and reinforced the importance of mindset, grit, and resilience.

Gavin Caneda

Gavin is currently working as an Underwriting Intern with the Inland Marine team in our Anaheim, CA office. A student at California State University, Long Beach, Gavin is eager to grow both personally and professionally through this hands-on experience. “I’m hoping to grow in every aspect of my life and professional career as well as gain real-world experience in the insurance industry,” he shares.

Originally from Lakewood, California, Gavin was drawn to Intact after attending a career fair. “The energy and shared passion for this field really stood out to me, and I felt a strong sense of belonging during my interviews,” he says.

If Gavin could travel anywhere in the world, he’d choose Japan. “Its rich culture, bright cities, and fun nightlife really appeal to me,” he says. Recently, he watched the documentary Life on Our Planet, which offered a fascinating look at the history of life on Earth.

Sehaj Singh

Sehaj is an Underwriting Intern with the Trade Credit team in the New York City office this summer. He is a student at Baruch College and is excited to gain hands-on experience in underwriting. This is his first formal internship, and he looks forward to learning from professionals in the field. Sehaj was especially inspired by his interview with Brian, whose ability to explain complex work made a lasting impression.

He was born and raised in Queens, New York, and his parents are originally from New Delhi, India. Sehaj was drawn to Intact by its welcoming culture and the sense of community he felt from the very beginning.

If he could travel anywhere in the world, he would choose Japan. He admires its futuristic culture and develops an interest in it through anime during the pandemic. Recently, he started watching Master of None, a comedy series he finds entertaining and unique.
