This week we are introducing you to our interns Tatum Carrol, Jared Zeinstra, Alec Heflin and Zekai Wu. We are excited to have them on board and are looking forward to their contributions they will make to their teams. Each of them shared with us their goals, passions and ambitions as they embark on this journey.
Tatum Carrol
Tatum just joined Intact as an Underwriting Intern this summer. Throughout this internship she hopes to “gain knowledge on the various facets of the insurance business like underwriting and also learn the ins and outs of other positions at Intact.” She also wants to gain future professional connections and friendships with other interns and coworkers. Tatum attends the University of Missouri in her home state and will be a senior in the fall.
Tatum was attracted to Intact because of the description of the company and internship position. “After undergoing interviews and connecting with Intact employees I knew how kind and inviting my coworkers will be if I join,” she says. She was also intrigued by what life as an underwriter could be like.
If she could travel anywhere in the world she would visit Switzerland. “I have always loved the pictures I have seen of the mountains and lakes and the food looks amazing” she says. The last television show Tatum watched was Revenge on Hulu.
Jared Zeinstra
Jared will be a senior in the fall at Illinois State University and lives close by in Montgomery, Illinois. He will be interning in our Chicago office this summer in the underwriting department. Jared hopes to gain real-world and practical experience and develop skills that will “enhance my understanding of underwriting and the professional world” he says.
Jared was attracted to this internship because of the opportunity to develop his professional career. He also liked the “positive work environment” at Intact which is important to him. “It was something I wanted to be a part of,” he says.
If Jared had the chance to travel anywhere in the world he would go to Iceland. Being from Illinois, he is used to extreme cold winters.
Alec Heflin
Alec is from Georgetown, Texas and will be interning in our Minnesota office. He is a senior at Rockhurst University, where he is a student athlete. Throughout this internship, he hopes to “gain information required to become a successful employee”. Additionally, he hopes to make valuable and lasting professional connections.
Alec was attracted to the success of Intact and was eager to “continue on the same path to success” he says. “The employees are close to each other and seem to love what they are doing and who they are doing it with,” he says.
Alec would love to visit the Swiss Alps to go skiing if he had the chance to travel anywhere in the world. Recently he started watching the television show Breaking Bad. “So far, it’s as good as everyone says it is,” he says.
Zekai Wu
Zekai is a master’s student at Boston University and is originally from Shenzhen, China. A southern city in China, “where people from all around the world gather for an opportunity” he says. He hopes to be challenged and given chances at Intact as a UX intern with our IT department. He is eager to use his skills to “amplify the user experience for insurance products and make them more user friendly” he says. The most important thing to him is “the opportunity to work with many talented people on my team” and he is eager to learn more while working alongside them.
Zekai was attracted to “Intact’s focus on helping people, businesses and society prosper in good times and be resilient in bad times” he says. This resonated with his own values. Furthermore, “the collaborative team environment and the potential to make a positive impact on the company and its customers perfectly aligns with my desire for a supportive and meaningful role” he says.
If Zekai could travel anywhere, he would like to visit Italy for their culture as well as their cuisine. Japan would be his second choice. The last television show he watched was Breaking Bad but thinks he is more suited for watching family sitcoms!
