This week we are pleased to welcome Brooke Johnson, Abigail Laryea and James McLachlan Actuarial, Audit and Finance teams respectively. What made them join Intact, and what are they looking to learn this summer? Read on to find out!
Brooke Johnson
We are welcoming back Brooke to our Actuarial department! She was an intern with Intact last year and she enjoyed her time learning with her colleagues. She decided to join the team again to further her knowledge in the field, and to apply different skill sets to real-world applications and projects. Brooke is from Eagan, Minnesota and is currently attending St. Olaf College.
If she had a chance to go anywhere in the world, she would visit Japan or Australia.
Abigail Laryea
Abigail is from Columbia Heights, Minnesota and has joined out Internal Audit team. This summer, she is hoping to identify her career interests so she can get better insights into her future. She also wants to gain confidence in a professional environment, improve her communication skills and network with others in the field. She admires Intact’s values and liked speaking with the hiring managers at her interview. “They were very easy to speak to and they answered all my questions,” she says.
Abigail, who is a student of Gustavus Adolphus College, wishes to visit Ghana or Haiti in the future. The last TV Show she watched was The Lincoln Lawyer.
James McLachlan
James considers himself as an “excel nerd” and is excited to put his skills into action at his internship with Intact in the Finance department. He looks forward to getting exposure to both the insurance industry as well as the field of finance. “This is the perfect opportunity to network with other interns as well as coworkers who have accomplished many achievements that I aspire to reach in my career,” says James.
He is White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and “as the name suggests, we have a beautiful lake that is great for fishing, boating, and many other water activities,” he adds. James, who is a student at the University of Minnesota, was attracted to Intact because of the prospects the company provides within the finance field. He also looks forward to applying his classroom knowledge to real-world situations that require creative and innovation solutions.
If James could go anywhere in the world, he would travel to Barcelona, Spain. “The city has beautiful architecture, amazing art exhibits, world-class soccer, and is located right along the sea. Also, as a Spanish minor, I would love the opportunity to practice my speaking Spanish!” he adds.
