The month of March is nationally observed as Women’s History Month – a time to recognize the struggles and accomplishments of women in the history of the United States.
The roots of this celebration lie in “Women’s History Week” that started as a local event in Santa Rosa, California, and was proclaimed a national event on March 7, 1982.
By 1987, Congress had declared the month of March as Women’s History Month.
The cornerstone event – International Women’s Day – is observed globally on March 8 every year since 1977. This year’s theme is “Choose to Challenge”.
